Vintage True Temper Axe Head Flint Edge Kelly Works Jersey Pattern

Weighs 3 lbs. 13 oz.
Condition is how you see it in the photos. The axe has vintage wear, some
rust, scuffs, scratches. and chips off the cutting edge. It's old and well used.
See markings on the last photo. It has been lightened for readability.

The American Fork & Hoe Company was founded on September 8, 1902 as a
consolidation between many companies. Its headquarters were in Cleveland, Ohio
(1902-1981) and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (1981-1999).
It is generally known that the American Fork & Hoe Co. acquired the Kelly Axe
& Tool Co. in 1930, extensively to add axes to their product line on a much
larger scale.

The American Fork & Hoe Company purchased the Kelly Axe & Tool Co. in 1930.
That company had previously been named the Kelly Axe Mfg. Co. The name was
formally changed to the Kelly Axe & Tool Co. in 1904. The name “Kelly Axe &
Tool” continued to be used by the A. F. & H. Co. with a slight change to the
Kelly Axe & Tool “Works” and was used until the axe division was sold in 1987.

I believe this is the Jersey Pattern. Other than True Temper Flint Edge which
we know is Kelly, I can't give an exact company name/division or date because
many of the Kelly pieces were not marked with that information.
There is a plethora of information about both companies on yesterdaystools web
site.

Thanks for stopping by.
