This vintage axe was manufactured, possibly by Collins or Mann, under the
Master Mechanic brand. The 3.25-lb. cedar-pattern head is hung on a whippy
Amish-made hickory handle finished with walnut stain, boiled linseed oil and a
cherry wood wedge. Finished weight is 4 lbs. 10 oz., length 31.75 inches. The
profile of the bit makes it equally adept at chopping and splitting tasks, and
it did both well in the field test. The thin handle makes this axe feel
effortless to swing, improving accuracy and endurance. The new owner can
sharpen and hone to suit the primary task.
