Leather Sharpening Strop for Knives and Razors.
We offer two sizes, the first with a stropping area of 400mm x 70mm which is
perfect for most knives and razor's, the second with a stropping area of 500mm
x 100mm which is suited to the largest of the steak knives.
Being a working Butcher, the strop that I would use is always the 400mm x 70mm
size. The 500mm x 100mm is only for people with the largest of steak knives or
actual knife blade makers. Both are available in top quality beef leather that
has been picked for the purpose of cutting Sharpening Strops from being tough,
and free of weak spots.
The Strops are made with loop attachments at both ends as well as a loop of
Kangaroo leather which makes it simple to attach to a variety of points.
How to use a strop:
To use the strop to it's full potential, you need to purchase a sharpening
compound, the green one from Bunnings is my recommendation, which is rubbed
onto the leather as a light coat to provide a grit to the surface which helps
with the process. (you can use a strop without the compound but you will not
get the full benefit of using a strop)
The first rule in using a strop is that it will not sharpen a blunt knife, it
is used to keep a sharp blade sharp.
Both sides of the leather Strop are used in keeping sharp the edge of your
knife or razor.
In the short video attached to this listing it shows me using the Strop in a
smooth motion which is all that is needed to keep your knife or razor sharp.
Start out by rubbing a light coat of the sharpening compound sparingly onto
the rougher side of the leather, then carefully rub in a backward flowing
motion as I've shown in the video. Do that half a dozen times and then change
to the smooth side of the strop, rub a bit of sharpening compound on this side
and rub the blade slowly and smoothly for another half a dozen times. Test your
blade to see if it has been returned to sharp and if not, repeat the process
again until the level of sharpness has been reached. Use the sharpening
compound only sparingly as a small amount lasts a long time.
I hope this has helped you decide to buy one of my Strops either for yourself
or as a gift to someone you care for.
Also note that in the personalisation section we can include Initials of your
choice stamped on the leather. This provides that extra special touch and also
extra security.
