Antique English 16” T&S L Back Saw
Circa early 1900s
A very scarce English backsaw, presented in clean unrestored authentic
The handle has plenty of aged character, the odd small paint mark, a lovely
colour from years of use and is securely fixed to the plate with lovely old
brass split nuts.
The plate has similarly aged look, is straight and stamped T&S L and the teeth
are a crosscut profile 9 PPI.
Tenon saws of this era were not unusual to br larger than today’s, however its
a crosscut profile, this lovely saw likely to have been used as a carcass saw
even if it’s a little long.
The T&S L mark may refer to Thomas & Strachan Liverpool, it’s unclear if this
is a makers or retailers mark.
Overall a very rare saw, I’ve never seen one previously, yet it remains a very
useful tool still today.
